DeSoto Caverns...Lost and Found

Panning for gold meant FINDING gems! WOW

The maze was a favorite part of our field trip! Getting lost was so much fun. Thank goodness for Danielle. She just went back in and rounded up the lost children...and chaperones!

Computers Dot Com

Technology plays a big part in the school life of a second grader. We work on reading/math skills and learn about technologytwice a week in the computer lab. We also use computers in our classroom daily.

PHYSICS FUN

Next, we built a balance complete with a fulcrum and buckets.

PHYSICS IN SECOND GRADE???

YES! If you ask one of my students, they will tell you it was all about balancing and weighing? We journaled about creating an equal arm balance, experiments, graphs, and comparisons. First, we bagan exploring balancing a paper butterfly on a pencil.

Grandparents Spotted

One of the most special days of the school year must be Grandparents Day at OES! My class looked for ward to sharing lunch with their grandparent! some grandparents could not be here; so we had stand-in mawmaws and pawpaws.A highlight was the student interview of their grandparent. They were shocked to hear that soft drinks cost five cents. They also could not believe that some grandparents had no TV! They wanted to know what "chores" were! HA We enjoyed all the comments.

Tasty Phases of the Moon

If you know me at all, you know that I believe in hands-on teaching. Well, naturally I could not pass up a chance to create the phases of the moon with Oreo cookies! Did you know that learning could be so delicious???? Of course, my students had to show me their understanding of the phases before they could eat!
